| Geoform Type | Moraine Shoal |
| Definition | A relatively shallow area in a body of water that rises very close to, or reaches, the surface. Shoals have a variety of shapes that are influenced by tidal and river currents. They tend to consist of (or be covered by) sand or other unconsolidated sediments, but may also be composed of rock or other materials. Unlike banks, shoals can be exposed during low tide or periods of low water flow in rivers or streams (modified from Jackson 1997). |
